Turbo Mini Bio is an efficient, compact filter for freshwater aquariums. It is equipped with the proven Turbo Mini motor with a flow rate of 320 l/h. A new feature of this model is an additional filter media container filled with highly porous BioCeraMAX 1600 ceramic media and a dense filter sponge. The filter inlet also features an additional, easily accessible sponge prefilter that traps larger debris and protects delicate aquarium inhabitants from being drawn into the filter.
It is the smallest filter in the Turbo range equipped with a biological filter media container. This makes Turbo Mini Bio ideal for small aquariums, shrimp tanks and fry tanks, where clean water, stable biological conditions and the safety of the inhabitants are essential.
Small filter, more biology
Turbo Mini Bio was designed for small aquariums in which the filter must be not only efficient but also safe for delicate tank inhabitants. It is a good solution for aquariums with shrimp, small fish and juvenile fish that require a gentler flow and extra protection against being drawn into the filter.
The key feature of the Turbo Mini Bio is the combination of a compact design with a container for biological filter media. This gives the user a small internal filter that not only traps mechanical debris but also supports the aquarium’s biological stability.
Built on the proven Turbo Mini
The filter uses the motor known from the Turbo Mini, with a flow rate of 320 l/h and a maximum head of 65 cm. This means proven performance, a compact design and easy operation. A flow control located on the front of the filter lets you adjust the water flow to the aquarium size and the needs of its inhabitants. These features make the filter suitable for aquariums as small as 10 l and tanks with a capacity of up to 80 l.
The directional nozzle allows the stream of filtered water to be aimed where needed, for example towards the aquarium glass or the water surface. This makes it easier to adapt water circulation to the aquascape and the aquarium inhabitants.
Two sponges for more effective protection
Turbo Mini Bio is equipped with two filter sponges. The first is positioned on the filter inlet and acts as an easily accessible prefilter. It traps larger debris as soon as water enters the filter and also protects shrimp, fry and small fish from entering the unit.
The second, denser sponge sits inside the filter media container and provides finer water filtration. Its structure helps trap smaller particles while also providing additional surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise. Water passes in sequence through the prefilter, which traps larger debris, the denser sponge, which catches finer particles, and the ceramic media, which supports biological filtration.
BioCeraMAX 1600 – stable biological filtration
The heart of the Turbo Mini Bio is the container filled with BioCeraMAX 1600. This highly porous filter medium made from sintered glass provides a very large surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow. These bacteria help break down harmful nitrogen compounds, supporting stable and safe conditions in the aquarium. The media balls fit the container perfectly, maximising the use of the available space. This creates an ideal habitat for beneficial nitrifying bacteria.
By combining filter sponges with ceramic media, Turbo Mini Bio provides more effective biological filtration than conventional small sponge filters. This is particularly important in small tanks, where water parameters can change more quickly.
The smallest Turbo with a biological media container
Turbo Mini Bio stands out as the smallest filter in the Turbo family. This is an important advantage for aquarists who want more effective biological filtration without installing an oversized filter that takes up too much room in a small tank.
The compact design blends well into small aquascapes, does not visually dominate the aquarium and does not distract from the plants, decorations or the movement of fish and shrimp.
Adjustable flow and aeration
The filter has adjustable flow, allowing excessive water movement in a small aquarium to be reduced. This is particularly important in tanks with shrimp, bettas or other fish that prefer a gentler flow, as well as in the smallest aquariums, where a strong downward current could disturb the substrate. The directional nozzle at the outlet can direct the water flow towards the glass, the surface or a selected area of the aquarium, making it easier to match circulation to the aquascape and the needs of its inhabitants.
Turbo Mini Bio is also equipped with an aeration tube connected to the outlet nozzle. This provides additional oxygenation and helps reduce the formation of a protein film on the surface of still water.
Easy operation and maintenance
The filter design simplifies routine maintenance. The prefilter at the inlet can be quickly removed and rinsed without disturbing the main biological filter bed. This makes cleaning convenient while allowing the bacteria colonising BioCeraMAX 1600 to continue working effectively in the filter.
Installation is simple thanks to the holder with strong suction cups. The holder is adjustable, allowing the filter to be positioned at the desired height, deeper in the water or just below the surface. The unit is shorter than the other models in the Turbo range, making it suitable for shallower tanks as well. Caution! The Turbo Mini Bio filter motor must always remain submerged!
With these features, one compact unit can filter, circulate and aerate the water at the same time, eliminating the need to install an additional device in a small aquarium.
